The DuPage County Medical Reserve Corps is a
component of The Citizen Corps of DuPage County. Any resident at least
of 18 years of age who is willing to help the County during health
emergencies can volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps. A medical
background is not required to volunteer.
Although there is no imminent threat against DuPage County, a major
emergency may overburden first responders and health care providers.
Volunteers may be called upon to assist emergency workers. Emergencies
include major fires, automobile accidents, floods, blizzards, tornadoes,
unusual disease outbreaks, or acts of terrorism.
Volunteers will be invited to future training events that fit their
skills and interests. The DuPage County Health Department successfully
trained a total of eighty four dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, and
pharmacists in the procedures and operations of a medication dispensing
site during June and July. More training events will be scheduled in the
near future, including trainings for volunteers who do not have a
medical background.
The Medical Reserve Corps is a great community builder, allowing DuPage
County residents to take an active role in emergency response.
Interested volunteers can sign up electronically on
www.citizencorpsdupage.org. If you are a volunteer who signed up for
the 2003-2004 “Volunteers for Preparedness” program, we ask that you
please re-enroll, using the registration screens on the Citizen Corps
webpage.
If you have any questions, or if you would prefer a paper application
form, please call the Medical Reserve Corps Coordinator at 630-682-7925.
